M1 REPAIR DAILY #5 – tree felling

Unfortunately, the M1 motorway widening project will require the felling of trees alongside the motorway. To ensure the smooth running of the works, thousands of cubic metres of trees will have to be felled, without which the widening of the motorway and the improvement of traffic would not be possible.

We are replacing the felled trees with replacement forests of the same area, in the place designated by the state, to ensure that the expansion of the motorway does not reduce Hungary’s forest area.

The pitch is not without a green surface. After the extension, there will be trees, bushes and shrubs closer to the fence as before.

The transplantation of the protected plants (7 protected and 1 specially protected), under the supervision of botanists, was already completed in the autumn.

The state-owned timber harvested during the M1 motorway widening works can be used as social firewood by local governments, churches, church legal entities, charitable NGOs, public benefit organisations, national minority self-governments or health, educational and training institutions free of charge to help them carry out their tasks, including distribution to the needy.

The ownership of the reclaimed timber may be acquired free of charge by submitting a written request to MNV Zrt., the owner of the timber, acting on behalf of the Hungarian State, and submitted to MKIF Zrt. ( [email protected] ).

Information on the process and downloadable samples can be found on the MNV Zrt. website at https://www.mnv.hu/ingatlan-portfolio/eljarasi-dokumentumok_ingatlan-portfolio_.

MKIF Zrt. will provide information on the storage location of the timber to be claimed, the available quantity and quality data.

Major works on the M1 widening on the main line will start on 1 September this year at the latest. Preparatory work has been ongoing since last autumn and we will keep you updated on a regular basis.

The M1 will have around 80 km of 2*3 lanes up to Bicské in three years (until 31 August 2028), and up to the Concó rest area at km 94 in four years (until 31 August 2029). The road will also have one intelligent stop lane on each side, which can be opened from the centre in case of accidents, traffic or renovation.
