Night operations on the M1 motorway

On the M1 motorway, which is being widened, we not only have to carry out the tasks related to the project, we also have to operate the section in parallel with the development.

Caring for vegetation, cleaning drainage ditches, clearing rubbish, cleaning tables and benches, repairing paving – all tasks that we need to include in our daily routine.

These interventions can usually only be carried out safely by restricting traffic, so to reduce disruption to road users, we carry out operational tasks at night wherever and whenever possible.

We also work regularly and continuously at night on the M1: in the last 2 months alone, in January and December, our staff spent 45 nights on the widened M1 to carry out operational tasks, even in temperatures as low as 10-20 degrees below zero.

In addition to the winter operation and winter maintenance tasks, the following work was carried out at night:

  • washing road equipment,
  • providing traffic diversions to carry out development works,
  • replacement of clamp fixings (traffic engineering elements with reflective surfaces),
  • repairing the embankment blocked by lorries,
  • potholing works,
  • litter picking at rest areas.

This week, for example, on the stretch between Bicske and Óbarok, we repaired the pavement damaged by extreme winter weather and heavy traffic on Monday to Tuesday morning, improving road safety.

Due to the cold weather, the asphalt is transported to the site in a special vehicle with a thermo flatbed to ensure that it remains at the right temperature when it is laid. If it were not delivered to the site using this technology (but instead using a conventional tipper flatbed truck), crusting would occur during transport and it would not be possible to spread it.

For the safety of our colleagues, please reduce your speed around the work area! We work for you!

Everyone is welcome home! Just like you, our staff!
