Alongside the Budapest–Tatabánya section, widening works are also underway on the M1 motorway between Komárom and Ács.
Between kilometres 85 and 95, several work processes are taking place simultaneously. In addition to the construction of bridges, culverts and embankments, the milling of the old asphalt has also begun.
Our colleagues milled 8,800 tonnes of asphalt – equivalent to approximately 325 lorry loads – from an area of more than 16,000 square metres; a significant proportion of this, will be reused, in line with international practice, in the lower, bonding layer of the new road structure.
To date, we have moved 370,000 tonnes of earth during the construction and widening of the embankment on this section.
The animation below explains how we will transition from the original traffic layout to the new, widened carriageway – including the operational arrangements and work processes involved – and what the ‘2+1+1’ diversion entails:

To ensure that information is both accurate and timely, we have launched a dedicated website on the M1 extension.
This service provides important and essential information specifically for travelling on the M1, available in multiple languages at all times: any junction closures, restrictions at rest areas and the current traffic arrangements are marked on the map, whilst information such as emergency lay-bys is also available on the site.
The page can be accessed here: https://development.mkif.hu/m1
IMPORTANT!
We will ensure that 2×2 lanes remain open to traffic throughout the entire duration of the expansion works. This means there will be 2 lanes in each direction towards both Győr and Budapest.
Both cars and lorries can continue to use the motorway at all times!
