Work in the Nagyegyháza area is already providing the opportunity to lay new, temporary layers of asphalt.
A temporary track structure will be built on the embankments, so that during the widening of the Hegyeshalom side, traffic will be able to run on the Budapest side of the line on 2+2 lanes from autumn 2026. On the Győr side, the complete dismantling and reconstruction of the track to a depth of 100-120 cm will start at that time.
During the entire extension, we will provide 2×2 lanes for all traffic. This means that the 2-2 lanes in the direction of Győr and Budapest will be as available as before, before the diversions and the extension.
It is important to carry out extension work from the work site and service roads where and when possible. Whenever possible, we will schedule the operation of the widening line during the night to minimise disruption to traffic on the main line.
On the section of the M1 being widened, we have built interchanges at two places between the diverted and the non-interchanged lanes. We also installed intercommunicating Variable Message Signs (VJTs) using German technology at several locations.
These monitor traffic dynamics and communicate with each other to provide information to drivers for faster information and more dynamic traffic.
All the useful information you need to get around on the M1 (maps, diversion routes, rest areas and junctions) is available on our 13-language website:

The following animation will help you understand the timing and workflow to get from the original traffic pattern to the new widened lane and what the 2+1+1 diversion is:
Information on changes to traffic regulations and closures will be posted as usual in our information group, which anyone is free to join:
Thank you for your patience! We are on track. Together, with you.
