M1 EXTENSION DAILY #53 – Progress report / Biatorbágy junction

The reconstruction of the Biatorbágy junction is progressing according to plan.

Our colleagues are already laying the bottom layer of asphalt in some parts, the construction of the so-called gabion wall needed to hold the gap is in the final stretch, and the construction of the on-ramp embankment of the Biatorbágy junction towards Budapest is also underway.

Specialists are also continuously building the various elements of the new drainage system.

This is the first section of the M1 to receive the final road structure, with a 32 cm layer of asphalt, one and a half times thicker than before. On this section, our colleagues are moving around 6,000 cubic metres of earth, demolishing the track to a depth of 100-120 cm in places and then rebuilding it.

The Biatorbágy on-ramp is scheduled to be opened to traffic at the end of May.

Here are some fresh photos, the pictures reflect the situation on Monday (04.27.).

In recent weeks, we have built interchanges between the diverted and un-diverted lanes on the M1 motorway section under expansion in two places. We have also installed intercommunicating variable message signs (VJTs) using German technology at several locations.

These monitor traffic dynamics and communicate with each other to provide information to drivers for faster information and more dynamic traffic.

All the useful information you need to get around on the M1 (maps, diversion routes, rest areas and junctions) is available on our 13-language website:

The following animation will help you understand the timing and workflow to get from the original traffic pattern to the new widened lane and what the 2+1+1 diversion is:

We will keep you informed about changes to traffic regulations and closures in the usual way in our information group, which you can join freely via the link below:
