Temporary driveways – M1 extension diary #15

During the expansion, we are building temporary slip roads to help the M1 to move up the M1 at junctions.

These new, temporary roads will not only make it easier and quicker to drive on and off the M1, but will also provide access to the M1 in places where existing junction branches would prevent the rebuilding of bridges and flyovers.

The M1 expansion, which starts this year, will see 72 existing underpasses and overpasses rebuilt to meet the new cross-section requirements. The widened carriageway would simply not fit under them.

In the first phase, such temporary ramps will be built at 6 intersections: Concó, Tatabánya, Óbarok, Bicske, Herceghalom and the Eagle’s Nest Lake rest area.

During construction, we will move almost 6,000 cubic metres of earth and lay more than 7,000 square metres of asphalt.

The temporary roads will be built in 3 layers, with a total of 23 cm of asphalt, to cope with the load of the extension. The temporary roads will also use part of the asphalt that has been previously laid.

Thank you for your patience!
