During the widening of the M1 motorway, you will encounter such special, unusual machines in several places and on several occasions.
But how do these machines work and what is their role?
Crushing is a subsoil reinforcement technique whereby crushed stone is injected by soil displacement to a depth of 6-10 metres at a specified spacing. The driving is carried out by modern high-powered pile-driving machines with hydraulic driving tools, using a 5-10 tonne pile core.
These machines don’t work alone: the crushed stone is delivered to the crushed target tool by a so-called “rock hopper” mounted on a 50-tonne excavator.
By the time of this post, 1600 blocks had been completed along the M1 motorway.
👷🏼 Thank you for your patience! We are on track. Together, with you.
