The new Venice pedestrian and cycle bridge will be open to traffic on Wednesday morning.
With the opening of the new bridge, demolition of the old bridge will begin as promised. The demolition works will be carried out on a scheduled basis during the weekends of 9-10 May and 16-17 May 2026, from Saturday to Sunday NIGHT.
The closures required for the works have been planned on the basis of traffic data from previous years. This means that two lanes will be available on Saturday until 14.00 in the direction of Lake Balaton, and drivers heading to the capital will be able to use two lanes in the direction of Budapest on both Saturday and Sunday, except for the complete closure.
The traffic restrictions before the full closure are necessary due to the preparatory work for the demolition, which will include: preparing the lifting points, installing temporary tensioning anchors and the piling and assembly of the car docks.
The traffic regime will be modified as follows during the works:
6 May (Wednesday) 7:00 – 9 May (Saturday) 14:00
- the inner lane towards Lake Balaton and the inner lane on the side towards the capital
- the central and outer lanes are available for traffic heading towards Budapest

9 May (Saturday) 14:00 – 20:00
- the side of the track leading to Lake Balaton will be closed
- on the way to Lake Balaton, traffic will be on the inner lane of the side towards the capital
- the central and outer lanes are available for traffic heading towards Budapest
- the fuel station at the Velence rest area on the Balaton side will also be closed

9 May (Saturday) 20:00 – 10 May (Sunday) 07:00 – full course lock
- during the works, traffic on the M7 motorway between junction 42 Kápolnásnyék-Velence and junction 57 Agárd-Gárdony can use the main road 7 as a designated diversion road
- the Pákozdi rest area and the 70494j. and 70495j. roads leading to the hidden junction will be closed on the side towards Lake Balaton and the capital, including the turning lane.
- refuelling stations will be closed on both sides at the Venice stop

10 May (Sunday) 07:00 – 17:00
- the track lock is released.
- the Balaton side of the track will still be closed, traffic will be allowed to use the inner lane of the side towards the capital towards the lake
- the central and outer lanes are available for traffic heading towards Budapest
- the fuel station at the Venice rest area on the Balaton side remains closed

10 May (Sunday) from 17:00
- the closure of the side leading to Lake Balaton is lifted
- the inner lane towards Lake Balaton and the inner lane on the side towards the capital
- the central and outer lanes are available for traffic heading towards Budapest

16 May (Saturday) 20:00 – 17 May (Sunday) 07:00
- the Budapest side of the line will be closed
- during the works, traffic is allowed to use the main road No 7 as a designated diversion road between the junction 42 Kápolnásnyék-Velence and the junction 57 Agárd-Gárdony
- on the side towards the capital, the Pákozdi rest area and the 70495j. road leading to the hidden junction will also be closed, including the turning lane.
- the fuel station at the Venice rest area on the Budapest side will be closed.
- no restrictions on the side towards Lake Balaton
