M4 Development Diary #1 – New rest area to be built on the M4 near Monor

In addition to operations and road upgrades, and the ongoing M1 extension, there are several other developments underway on the MKIF network.

One of the latest is a new rest area on the M4 motorway in the Monor area. A new, modern, family-friendly rest area is also being built on the side leading to the capital and Szolnok, which is expected to be completed by August 2027.

The parking area, which will be equipped with an occupancy sign, will provide parking space for 30 trucks, 5 buses and 34 cars per side, with 3-3 of the spaces for cars being accessible.

It will be family-friendly, with modern garden furniture, a fitness park and a playground.

A total of 37,000 square metres of green space will be created on both sides of the rest area, with more than 230 trees and 13,000 container shrubs.

As with our other rest areas, we provide separate waste collection.

The rest area will be designed so that it can also be used as a filling station later, if required.

Preparatory works, including felling and de-ammunition, started already in the last quarter of 2025.

Construction started in March 2026 with the construction of the wildlife fence, landscaping and geodetic surveys.
