M1 TRANSPORTATION DIARY #47 – Earthworks, embankment widening

Work on the M1 extension is ongoing, including the preparation of new junctions and the widening of the embankment.

The M1 extension will involve moving millions of cubic metres of earth.

Since the beginning of March, 205 tasks have been completed on the sections to be upgraded. Every day, 1,500 of our colleagues work continuously on the main line, both directly and in the background.

We carry out 71 road works, 9 temporary traffic engineering works, 85 bridge works, 19 hydraulic works, 2 environmental works and 19 public works.

Some of these are tasks that may not always be visible to road users from the main line, but are important to complete so that the next phases of the extension can get underway. However, the widening of the new embankment and the notches alongside the track are becoming increasingly visible.

In addition, our colleagues are continuously working on new traffic engineering solutions, which are expected to be developed in the coming months.

The following animation will help you understand the timing and workflow to get from the original traffic pattern to the new widened lane and what the 2+1+1 diversion is:

📲 As usual, we will keep you informed about changes to the traffic regime and closures in our information group, which you can join freely via the link below:

👷🏼 Thank you for your patience! We are on track. Together, with you.
