M1 EXTENSION DIARY #62 — Installation of night-time traffic diversions

Construction of the new Mocsai junction is continuing with the building of the internal bridge piers; for this reason, during the night we cordoned off the work area between km 77 and 78 on both sides of the road using concrete barriers.

Last Thursday night into Friday, and again this Monday night into Tuesday, we set up lane-by-lane diversions on the M1 motorway in order to minimise disruption to traffic.

Over the course of two nights, the specialists installed a total of 108 concrete elements, each weighing 6 tonnes.

During the expansion of the M1 motorway, we are ensuring that there are two lanes in each direction at all times; however, there are occasions – such as the installation of bridge girders, the setting up of diversions, maintenance of road infrastructure – when we can only carry out the work by imposing further traffic restrictions; however, we endeavour to carry out these tasks during less busy periods, at night.

The animation below explains how we will transition from the original traffic layout to the new, widened carriageway – including the operational arrangements and work processes involved – and what the ‘2+1+1’ diversion entails:

To ensure that information is both accurate and timely, we have launched a dedicated website on the M1 extension.

This service provides important and essential information specifically for travelling on the M1, available in multiple languages at all times: any junction closures, restrictions at rest areas and the current traffic arrangements are marked on the map, whilst information such as emergency lay-bys is also available on the site.

The page can be accessed here: https://development.mkif.hu/m1

IMPORTANT!
We will ensure that a 2×2-lane carriageway remains available to road users throughout the entire duration of the expansion works. This means that there will be 2 lanes in each direction, both towards Győr and Budapest.
Both cars and lorries will be able to use the motorway at all times!
