”What is of interest to everyone is that by 1 September at the latest, the first phase of the expansion of the main road, i.e. the road surface itself, will start on the M1 motorway from the M0 to the Concó rest stop, at kilometre marker 94.
In practical terms, this means that there will be 2×3 fixed lanes for about 78-80 kilometres, plus a so-called intelligent hard shoulder on each side.
When the traffic situation requires it,-for example due to accidents, reconstruction work, heavy traffic, congestion, the intelligent hard shoulder can be opened and, in theory, it will be possible to drive on the M1 between the M0 and Győr on even 2×4 lanes.
We are very careful to operate transparently and to report on all the works, reconstructions, developments and everything that may affect people driving on the motorways. In addition, I can say that we are perhaps unique among Hungarian road operators because we have been placing a great deal of emphasis on strengthening road safety and traffic culture for years.
We use every method possible, so from comedy shows to modelling traffic situations supervised by roadside driving instructors, to sharing real-life traffic camera footage. We also have technical series, so we are trying to do everything we can to help drivers to keep up with the pace of an increased, accelerated world in terms of knowledge and style, and obviously we need to provide a safe roadway for that. That’s why we are improving and that’s why we are reconstructing.”
