As an experiment, we have equipped some of our cars with dashboard cameras. So, from 30 August, some of our road patrol, foreman and so-called truck mounted attenuator (TMA) vehicles have been equipped with front and rear dashboard cameras – For everyone’s protection.
In the past year, since MKIF Zrt. took over the operation of 1,237 km of national express roads, our colleagues have suffered 24 accidents. On average, they had an unfortunate incident on the roads every two weeks, mostly caused by careless drivers.
Five of our colleagues have been hospitalised, eight of our road patrol cars have been crashed, and 13 so-called TMAs have been damaged since the 1st of September last year.
The balance and the experience are devastating. Many drivers run into our vehicles without braking, or are so late in noticing our cars on duty with their lights and highly visible orange colour that they are unable to avoid the collision.
Seeing the number of injuries and value of property damage, we decided to install cameras to protect our colleagues and our vehicles. We expect this to improve road safety and driving morale. We hope that the fact that our cars record traffic will bring greater safety for our staff. Thereby protecting their lives, their physical safety and the integrity of our cars.
The expected duration of the pilot project is 4-6 weeks. After evaluating the results, we will decide how to proceed with the programme.
We place a special sticker on our camera-equipped cars that contains a QR code which, if scanned, directs you to our privacy notice. But you can also find it at the following link: https://mkif.hu/adatvedelem/
