Construction of the new bridge on the M1 motorway at the Óbarok rest area continues at night

From 25 November (Wednesday), bridge construction works will take place at km 42 of the M1 motorway, at the Óbarok rest area.

During the construction work, which is expected to last until mid-December, temporary traffic management is expected on the M1 motorway between km 42 and km 44.

During the works, the specialists will work with traffic restrictions and lane closures at night (mostly the through lane will be affected) and lane closures during the day. Between 6 am and 22 pm, i.e. during the day, the motorway will be divided into two lanes in both directions, leaving 2-2 lanes in both directions towards Budapest and Hegyeshalom.

However, lane closures and short – 5-10 minute – total traffic stoppages may occur during the night. These will be necessary mainly when traffic patterns change. All schedules and changes affecting traffic will be announced in advance and in good time.

Please do not drive out of habit! Pay attention to the posted signs and speed limits!

The project goes far beyond a simple lane extension. The overall development of the M1 motorway is a complex infrastructure programme that will take several years to complete:

  • 72 existing underpasses and overpasses will be rebuilt to meet the new wider cross-section requirements,
  • 11 existing junctions will be upgraded and 4 new grade-separated junctions will be built,
  • 6 complex rest areas will be completely rebuilt and the rest will be expanded and modernised – including around 300 new truck parking spaces and family-friendly rest facilities,
  • We are developing 2 engineering sites (Bicske and Komárom),
  • 7 at-grade junctions will be converted into a modern roundabout,
  • new drainage and reservoir systems are built,
  • and a significant extension of the noise barriers (9 times longer and 12 times larger).

Please drive on the affected section with increased attention and in accordance with the posted signs and the rules of the Highway Code!

Thank you for the patience and understanding of motorists and locals! The aim of the works is to make the motorway safer and more comfortable to use in the long term. We ask everyone to drive carefully and to respect the speed limits!
