MKIF – 2025 – report

First of all, thank you for the patience of our users this year, the cooperation of our partners and the work of our colleagues throughout the year!

But let’s take a closer look at what we have achieved together in the past year!

In 2025, 24% of the 1,300 km of motorway network we manage was resurfaced, or nearly 4.5 million m². The renovation work not only involved replacing the wearing course: where necessary, we also replaced the damaged sub-base – and in some places even the base – to make traffic safer.

In addition to the replacement of pavements, 78 bridges and flyovers and 35 rest areas have been renewed this year.

From 2026, there will also be some planned road repairs, as pavements that have deteriorated due to wear and tear will need to be replaced, but the volume of work will not be as high as in the last three years.

Renovations are expected to start in the spring, and no major resurfacing work is planned on the tracks we operate until then.

Information about the planned works is available here:
https://mkif.hu/felujitas/

You can read more about the renovations and how the pavement age of each track has changed over the past three years, along with graphs, here:

THE M1 EXTENSION IS UNDER WAY

In September 2025, the widening of the M1 started on the main carriageway between the M0 and the Concó (Bábolna area) rest area. It is interesting to note that preparatory work on the extension has been ongoing since autumn 2024.

The 78 km of track will be widened to 2×3 lanes, with 1 intelligent stopping lane per side to be used as a full-fledged traffic lane (this is ITS), for increased capacity and safety.

As part of the project (not exhaustive):

  • 72 bridges and flyovers are rebuilt or completely rebuilt
  • 11 junctions upgraded, 4 new ones built
  • 6 complex holiday complexes to be renovated, with family-friendly rest areas
  • 300 new truck parking spaces created
  • our engineering buildings will be expanded and renewed (Bicske, Komárom)
  • modern drainage and noise protection.

More details are available in the animation and on our 13-language information page:

NEW VENICE PEDESTRIAN-CYCLE BRIDGE
The 193-tonne, 80-metre long, 4.5-metre wide bridge structure was delivered to site in 8 elements, which were assembled in pairs, so that 2 to 2 elements, 4 in total, had to be craned into place during the lifting operations, which were completed by the end of October.

Test loads could be carried out in early 2026, and the new bridge is expected to be ready for use by summer. The old bridge will remain in use until the new one is opened!

PUBLICATION
We currently operate around 1,300 km of motorways from 20 engineering sites, and in addition to the main line, we also manage a further 400-450 km of roads, with 170 junctions and 170 rest stops, 365 days a year, 0-24 hours a day.

Just one or two examples of everyday tasks:

  • road control and traffic monitoring
  • maintenance of rest areas and facilities
  • winter operation, deslippage
  • regular inspection of bridges, vegetation
  • plant care
  • cleaning of eaves and gutters
  • rapid removal of illegal waste
  • construction-demolition of diversions
  • repair and replacement of railings and road fixtures
  • accident management

ROAD SAFETY, EDUCATION
In 2025, we continued our BE SAFE and I became a Road Manager video series, which aim to show a variety of common traffic situations and the work of our colleagues on the road. You can access this content here: https://www.youtube.com/@mkifzrt

Information on changes to traffic regulations, possible track closures, closures, accidents – in other words, unforeseen events – is always available in our information group, which already has more than 6,000 members and is free for anyone to join via the link below:

Thank you for joining us this year and following our work!

In 2026 we will continue to work to make the motorway network we manage safer and more modern!

We are on track. Together, with you.
