Sustainability Strategy

MKIF Zrt’s sustainability strategy until 2030 is based on three closely interrelated pillars: environmental sustainability (E), social care (S) and corporate governance (G). The aim of this triple entity is to create a safe and liveable infrastructure for all, in line with the company’s vision 2035, which not only serves but also actively shapes the transport culture and the social responsibility arena.

In line with the principle of environmental sustainability, the company consciously strives to reduce its harmful emissions, prepare for the effects of climate change and protect the natural environment. The aim of social care is to achieve a value-based operation that puts people at the centre, by improving transport safety, reducing noise and environmental impacts, and ensuring the well-being of employees and passengers.

Finally, corporate governance is a key to building trust: through transparent operations, ethical business practices, fair partnerships and continuous performance measurement, the company builds long-term stability and credibility. MKIF Zrt. is convinced that only a future in which the environment, society and the economy are valued and create value can be sustainable.

MKIF Zrt. is committed to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and actively contributes to a greener, safer and more liveable environment.

The Hungarian Concessionary Infrastructure Development Company (MKIF Zrt.) was established in 2022 with the aim to renovate, develop and operate the Hungarian motorway network to a higher standard than before. Under the terms of the contract with the Hungarian State, the company will operate, maintain and develop 1,237 km of motorways over the next 35 years.

By 2034, MKIF Zrt. undertakes to renovate almost half of the main line, 538 km, build 278 km of new expressways and extend 299 km of the existing network. Our aim is to make travel safer and smoother for all road users – while keeping our sustainability principles in mind.

MKIF Zrt. pays special attention to environmental, social and corporate governance aspects in all areas of its operations. The Group’s common vision is to create a sustainable and safe high-speed rail network for all by 2035.

Our environmental responsibility includes, among other things:

  • reducing greenhouse gas emissions,
  • increasing energy efficiency, using renewable energy sources,
  • use of recycled asphalt on 60% of new road sections,
  • introducing separate waste collection at all rest areas.

Our social care is manifested in the fact that:

  • we create a safe, family-friendly workplace,
  • actively reduce accidents and noise pollution,
  • attention is paid to people in residential areas and the comfort of travellers,
  • we make the rest areas accessible.

And as a responsible company:

  • we operate in a transparent and ethical manner,
  • we work with reliable partners,
  • regularly measure and improve our sustainability performance,
  • We respond 100% to complaints from the travelling public.
