M1 Expansion Diary #32 – Bridge demolition

In parallel with the bridge construction, demolition work has also started on the M1 motorway.

Now, for the first time, from Thursday to Friday night, our colleagues have started demolition work on what the experts call an “artefact” over the road 1134, in the immediate vicinity of the Sasfészek-tó rest area and junction.

During the night, without disturbing the traffic on the main line, the 90-tonne beam was lifted and transported from the site in 3 pieces.

This was necessary to allow the bridge to be widened in cross-section and to accommodate the 2×3+ITS lane that will be added during the expansion.

This bridge will not be completely demolished, only the demolition works necessary for the reconstruction and widening have started.

On the side leading to the capital, our colleagues worked where there is currently a work area. The parts of the bridge not used by traffic have now been cut and lifted! This side of the bridge will be the first to be widened, which is why this work is necessary.

These lifts can (or should) only be carried out safely in an area away from traffic. To minimise disruption to traffic on the road crossing the track, the demolition work was carried out at night.

During November, there will be several nights of this or similar work. The current traffic regime – 2+1+1 – is subject to change, so please always check the MKIF interface and/or the UTINFORM website before departure.

Thank you for the patience of locals and road users! We wish you an accident-free journey!
