M1 CONSTRUCTION DAILY #27 – Diversion deployment

The new temporary traffic management system, the 2+1+1 diversion, is being built in several places in several phases.

This new temporary traffic regime was first introduced recently on the section between the Harkályos rest area and Szárliget, which has already allowed the start of embankment widening works.

A temporary track structure will be built on these embankments, so that during the widening of the Hegyeshalom side, traffic will be able to run on 2+2 lanes in both directions on the Budapest side.

It is expected that in the coming weeks, the 2+1+1 diversion will be implemented on additional sections and embankment widening works will continue in new locations.

IMPORTANT!

We will provide 2×2 lanes for road users throughout the extension. So there will also be 2-2 lanes in the direction of Győr and Budapest.

Cars and trucks can use the track all the time!

The following animation will help you understand the timing and workflow to get from the original traffic pattern to the new widened lane and what the 2+1+1 diversion is:

The widening of the M1 is not just a lane extension, it is a much more complex, systemic development:

🔺 72 existing underpasses and overpasses will be rebuilt to meet the new cross-section requirements. The widened track would simply not fit under or over them,

🔺 11 existing junctions will be upgraded and 4 new dedicated junctions will be built,

🔺 6 complex rest areas will be completely rebuilt, other rest areas will be expanded and modernised, around 300 new truck parking spaces will be created and family-friendly rest area adaptations will be completed,

🔺 We are expanding and modernising 2 engineering sites (Bicske, Komárom),

🔺 7 at-grade sub-nodes will be converted into modern roundabouts,

🔺 we build modern drainage and water storage systems,

🔺 significantly increase the length and height of noise barriers.

Thank you for your patience, we wish you accident-free driving! We are on track. Together, with you.
