Preparatory works for the reconstruction of the pedestrian/cycle bridge over the M7 motorway at Velence will start this week. The new bridge structure will be built approximately 20 metres away from the existing bridge, which is 3 metres wide and has a 9% incline, and the location of the new bridge will be shifted towards Lake Balaton. It will be 4.5 metres wider than before and will have a slighter, 5% “longitudinal gradient”.
According to the technical studies, it would be more expensive to renovate the old bridge than to build a new one. In addition to the technical condition of the structure, another factor in favour of demolition was that the widened M7 motorway, scheduled to begin in 2027, would not fit under the bridge. The new “artefact” currently under construction is being built in line with the development needs of the M7 motorway and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
It is important that the bridge remains safe with the existing restrictions (weight limit). Pedestrian and cycling traffic will continue to be permanently ensured on the bridge, which is expected to be demolished only after the new bridge is opened to traffic. In connection with the construction of the bridge, traffic restrictions will be imposed on the M7 motorway as follows:
Full track closure is expected only at night for shorter periods:
- during the lifting of some steel elements of the new bridge,
- during the demolition of the old bridge, which is scheduled for the end of this year.
There will be partial and temporary junction closures, mainly on the Budapest-bound side of the track:
- in connection with the construction of the new bridge.
The parking lots on the right and left sides of the Velence-pihenő, located at the end of the pedestrian and cycle bridge of Velence, will be occasionally closed partially or completely. The hidden junction of the Budapest-bound side car park, from Ország Street, as well as the access to the M7 motorway from Híd utca will be restricted. The junction 70434, i.e. Híd utca, will be open to traffic in one direction with traffic lights during major sporting events and national holidays, but will be passable in both directions.
MKIF Plc. will inform the travelling public about the traffic restrictions affecting the main line and the Velence junction, their exact times and schedules well in advance on its website, on social media platforms and via ÚTINFORM.
We ask for the patience and understanding of road users! We work for you!
