46% of the roads we manage have been rejuvenated since 1 September 2022

In 2023, we started the biggest motorway upgrade in Hungary’s history. Under our contract with the Hungarian State, we are required to bring the technical parameters of the pavement on the 1,237 kilometres of expressways we manage to the same technical standard throughout. This task must be completed by 31 August 2025. The so-called levelling up affects 538 kilometres, 43% of the main track. However, we also replaced large areas of the surface in sections not affected by the levelling up work where this was necessary for traffic safety reasons.

in 2023, 19% of the express roads under our management were resurfaced, covering 3.6 million square metres, and in 2024, another 27% of the main road was resurfaced to replacing the old, worn-out asphalt layer on around 5.1 million square metres.

According to official data from the National Roads Data Bank (OKA), 46% of our roads were renewed in the two years since the start of the concession, between 1 September 2022 and 1 September 2024.

The graphs below show the change clearly and visibly.

The M1, M3 and M7 have made the most progress, but this is not surprising as these roads were the first to be handed over. On these roads, it was not uncommon to see pavements that were 15-20, and in some cases even 27 years old. For this reason, especially in the case of the M3, we often had to replace several layers. Sometimes we even had to go down to the structural parts. During these two years, 68% of the pavement on the M1, 36% on the M3, and 54% on the M7 was renewed.

In addition to levelling up and road safety resurfacing, our ongoing tasks obviously include repairing any damage to the road surface caused by accidents or fires, so that we can continue to ensure safe travel for road users.

In 2025, we will continue the work we have started, with plans to modernise a further 16% of the road network under our management.

Of course, resurfacing is only the beginning of the modernisation of the road network. Traffic has increased many times over in the last decade and the capacity of our tracks is no longer able to cope with it everywhere and at all times. In the autumn of 2025, the expansion of the M1 motorway will mark the start of a 10-year development period worth a total of HUF 4,000 billion. By 2034, we will expand 299 km of motorways (M1, M3, M7) and build 279 km of new motorways.

Thank you for your patience and we wish you continued accident-free driving!

We are on track. Together, with you.
