M1 EXTENSION DIARY #61 — Bridge reconstruction

As part of the expansion of the M1 motorway, we will need to rebuild or reconstruct 72 overpasses or underpasses, as the widened carriageway would not fit beneath the existing structures.

Building bridges isn’t always spectacular; there are often parts that aren’t – or aren’t always – visible from the main track – even as the work progresses!

In today’s post, we’ve included some photos of a project that may not seem particularly spectacular at first glance, but is nonetheless important. The photos are from the Bicske area, where work is currently underway to lay the concrete mesh and install the formwork for the bridge under construction.

In our information messenger group, we provide regular updates on incidents affecting traffic, accidents and similar planned works.

You can join the group here: https://www.messenger.com/channel/mkifzrt

Wherever possible, we carry out the extension works from the worksite and/or service roads, so as to cause as little disruption to traffic as possible.

Work on the bridges, however, may affect traffic on the main line, so we carry out this work mainly during the night when traffic is lighter.

To ensure that information is both accurate and timely, we have launched a dedicated website on the M1 extension.

Important and essential information specifically for travelling on the M1 is available at all times in these 13 languages: any junction closures, restrictions at rest areas and the current traffic arrangements are marked on the map, whilst emergency lay-bys and access to intersecting roads are also listed on the page.

The page can be accessed here: https://development.mkif.hu/m1

Please take extra care when passing by whilst work is in progress!
