M85 Bécsi-dombi tunnel cleared

At the end of March, we carried out the mandatory biannual tunnel cleaning in Sopron in several phases with continuous traffic.

During the 3 days of work, our colleagues cleaned the tunnel walls, road and pavement surfaces and drainage systems using machines and, where necessary, manual tools.

And in mid-April, in line with our legal obligations, tunnel maintenance will also take place, when we plan to restrict traffic to the full width of the affected section for 1 day.

On Thursday 16 April, the following traffic regime will therefore apply:

  • arrivals from the border are expected to be diverted at the Sopron-Nyugat junction from 5 am, returning at the Fertőrákos junction,
  • Arrivals from Győr are expected to be diverted at the Fertőrákos junction from 7 am, returning at the Sopron-Nyugat junction.

The full track lock is needed because some of the nearly 4,000 pieces of equipment can only be accessed from a hoist, which requires both lanes to be used. Several work operations will be carried out in parallel in the two tunnel sections in order to return the track to traffic as soon as possible.

At this time, nearly 100 people are working in both tunnel tunnels at the same time: we have to test, inspect and maintain 30-40 different types of equipment. This means a total of about 4000 devices, of which about 500 are luminaires.

Thank you very much for your patience!
